Baked layered bread with ham, mozzarella and cream cheese

Ingredients

  • Bread — 400 g
  • Eggs
  • Tomato passata — 100 g
  • Cooked ham — 200 g
  • Mozzarella — 200 g
  • Parmesan — 100 g
  • Cream cheese — 200 g
  • Fresh tomato
  • Oregano

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. Beat the eggs in a shallow bowl. Dip the 400 g of bread pieces in the beaten egg so they are coated on both sides; set aside.
  3. Spread 100 g of tomato passata evenly over the bottom of a medium baking dish.
  4. Place half of the egg-coated bread in a single layer over the passata.
  5. Grate 200 g of cooked ham coarsely, grate 200 g of mozzarella coarsely, and grate 100 g of parmesan finely.
  6. Spread about 100 g of cream cheese over the first layer of bread, then sprinkle half of the grated ham and half of the grated mozzarella on top.
  7. Arrange the remaining bread over that layer, then spread the remaining 100 g of cream cheese across the second bread layer.
  8. Top with the remaining grated ham and the remaining grated mozzarella.
  9. Sprinkle the grated parmesan and oregano to taste over the top, then finish by placing thin slices of fresh tomato over the casserole.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven at 180°C for 20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the top is golden; keep an eye on baking time as ovens vary.
  11. Remove from the oven, let rest briefly, then serve warm.
