Best app to save recipes from Instagram: tested Reel
Instagram recipe import is not one capability. A Reel caption, an exact-author comment, spoken or visual-only content, a photo or carousel, and a link to a recipe website can expose different data. This guide scores one fixed multi-recipe Reel across six apps and leaves every unrun subtype unscored.
Disclosure: This page is published by CookbookSocial. CookbookSocial is included where relevant, and product claims are limited to documented, repeatable tests.
How the Instagram apps were checked
The fixed source is a public Instagram Reel containing four recipes across its caption and an exact-author pinned comment. The caption describes Mediterranean chicken meatballs and tzatziki; the author comment adds quantified potato and tomato-cucumber-red-onion salad recipes. This tests whether an importer finds multiple recipes, keeps them separate, reads author comments, preserves quantities and actions, and retains the source and creator.
CookbookSocial's four-recipe Reel was submitted manually in a clean signed-out production browser on October 11, 2026. CookingGuru was run once in a separate clean anonymous browser on October 12. ReciMe was run once in a clean guest web session on October 13. CookClip 2.4.9 was run once by the user in the native iPhone app on October 13, with the unedited draft captured before saving. Samsung Food was captured by the user in its authenticated web importer on October 17; it showed an explicit import error and a blank manual form. A user-supplied Paprika Windows capture from October 17 showed the imported form before saving; its exact app version and import engine were not visible. No failed input was replaced and no result was manually corrected before scoring.
Instagram recipe import results and limits
On the four-recipe Reel, CookbookSocial was the only tested app to expose all four recipe choices. The selected salad retained 9/9 ingredients and 3/3 cooking actions, but two source ranges became midpoint values, leaving 3/5 strict quantities. CookingGuru, ReciMe, and CookClip each collapsed the post to one partial result and omitted the potatoes and salad. Samsung Food failed to import the positive source and exposed no recipe choice or visible generated content. Paprika created one contaminated record: it began with source-backed meatballs and tzatziki content, then mixed in unrelated Crispy Cajun Chicken Salad Wraps, sweet potatoes, and Brussels sprouts content.
This is a result for one multi-recipe Reel, not a ranking for all Instagram posts. ReciMe documents that its importer reads captions rather than comments and handles multiple recipes one at a time; other photo, carousel, audio, visual-only, and linked-recipe paths remain separate evidence questions.
Instagram import scope and evidence rechecked October 15, 2026
| App | Documented Instagram scope | Tested here | Free-limit context | Current evidence boundary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CookbookSocial | Public Instagram posts, including caption, transcript, and available exact-author comment cues | Four-recipe Reel | Free accounts start with 5 AI-import credits | One production Reel result; photo, carousel, linked-recipe, and visual-only behavior is not scored here |
| CookingGuru | Public Instagram Reels in the web converter; its iOS marketing also mentions posts and photos | Four-recipe Reel in anonymous web | 2 anonymous conversions per 30 days or 5 per month after sign-up | Only the documented web Reel flow was run; photo and carousel claims were not tested |
| ReciMe | Caption first, then video audio, then an original recipe website when available | Four-recipe Reel in guest web | Free plan allows 5 imports every 7 days | Official help says comments are not read and multiple recipes are imported one at a time |
| CookClip | Instagram is accepted by Smart Import | Four-recipe Reel in the native iPhone app | Free plan allows 5 Smart Imports | One Reel draft only; the official FAQ does not establish each Instagram subtype separately |
| Samsung Food | The tested Instagram Reel reached the authenticated web importer; no broader Instagram support claim is inferred | Four-recipe Reel in authenticated web | Core app is free; Food+ pricing is localized at checkout | The import failed explicitly and opened a blank manual form without a recipe chooser or visible generated recipe content |
| Poach | Official documentation claims Reels, single-image posts, and carousels | Not run | Starts free without an account; an exact import cap was not verified | Documentation only; no result is scored in this guide |
| Paprika Windows | Paprika 4 documents social-media import, but the captured Windows build and engine were not identifiable | Four-recipe Reel in a user-supplied Windows capture | The capture does not establish stable or beta packaging | Critical cross-content contamination was visible; do not transfer this single result to stable Paprika 3 or Paprika 4 beta generally |
Four-recipe Instagram Reel results checked October 11–17, 2026
| App and source | Observed result | Source attribution | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| CookbookSocial — four-recipe Reel | Returned four recipe choices; selected salad had 9/9 ingredients, 3/3 actions, and 3/5 strict quantities | Original URL and Caitlin Prettyman were retained | Two source ranges became midpoint scalar values |
| CookingGuru — four-recipe Reel | Created one combined meatballs-and-tzatziki recipe with 16 ingredient names and 8 steps | Original URL and Caitlin Prettyman were retained | No recipe chooser or quantities; potatoes and salad were omitted |
| ReciMe — four-recipe Reel | Created one meatballs recipe with 11 ingredient rows and 8 instructions | Original URL remained visible; creator name was not visible | No recipe chooser or quantities; potatoes and salad were omitted, and tzatziki ingredients appeared only inside an instruction |
| CookClip — four-recipe Reel | Created one combined meatballs-and-tzatziki draft with 19 ingredient rows and 0 steps | Original URL remained visible; creator name was not visible | No recipe chooser or quantities; potatoes and salad were omitted |
| Samsung Food — four-recipe Reel | Explicit import failure with a blank manual form and no recipe chooser or visible generated content | Only instagram.com and a View original recipe control were visible; the exact URL target and Caitlin Prettyman were not shown | No result to score; translation, measurement conversion, below-fold fields, quota use, and save state are not established |
| Paprika Windows — four-recipe Reel | Created one record with source-backed meatballs and tzatziki content plus unrelated Crispy Cajun Chicken Salad Wraps, sweet potatoes, and Brussels sprouts content | Exact Instagram URL and Instagram.com domain retained; creator name was not visible | Critical cross-content contamination and no recipe chooser; the partial screenshot prevents exact full-field counts, English stayed English, and measurement conversion is unscored |
Instagram subtype coverage in this guide
| Case | Fixed source or evidence | Status | What can be concluded |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-recipe Reel with caption and exact-author comment | Four-recipe Instagram Reel | Tested side by side in six apps | Only CookbookSocial exposed four choices; Samsung Food failed and Paprika mixed unrelated content into one record, while this does not establish performance on other subtypes |
| Visual-only incomplete Reel | Visual-only pasta Reel | Source truth complete; no product run | The video shows a pasta dish but does not establish exact ingredient types, quantities, or a complete method |
| Single photo or carousel | Vendor documentation only | Unscored | Poach documents both formats and CookingGuru markets photo support, but neither claim was run on a fixed source |
| Post linking to a recipe website | ReciMe help documentation | Unscored | ReciMe documents a website-search fallback; no fixed linked-recipe result was compared here |

Which Instagram recipe app should you test first?
For the tested multi-recipe Reel, CookbookSocial preserved the four-recipe choice and creator attribution, while CookingGuru, ReciMe, and CookClip each produced one partial recipe. Samsung Food failed to import the source and showed no visible generated recipe content. Paprika mixed source-backed meatballs and tzatziki with unrelated recipes, a critical cross-content contamination result. CookbookSocial still changed two quantity ranges, so its result also needs source review. This single case does not establish a universal winner.
Choose a representative post from your own workflow before subscribing. If the recipe lives in comments, spans several recipes, is visual-only, uses a photo or carousel, or links to an external website, verify that exact path rather than assuming a Reel-caption result will transfer.
